Brockley recorded in the Domesday Book
The place-name is usually treated as Old English, with competing interpretations including Broca's clearing or a clearing associated with a brook; the exact derivation remains uncertain.
1182
Manor Farm works the land of a lost abbey
A Premonstratensian abbey was founded at Brockley but soon moved to Bayham. The site became Manor Farm, later worked by Joseph Myatt as market gardens.
1773
Oldest surviving building in Brockley is built: Stone House
Built by architect George Gibson the Younger. This building is Grade II listed and was historically considered to be in Deptford

Tyrwhitt-Drake family develops northern Brockley

Brockley Jack pub is replaced by the current brick and stone building
The pub's sign was written on a whalebone, which was long exhibited in the pub, above the fireplace but has recently be removed.

Brockley is heavily bombed during World War II
The combination of V1 flying bombs and V2 rockets left a lasting mark on the area, requiring significant post-war redevelopment.
1955
Large houses become homes for the Windrush generation
The overground line running through Brockley is named after those immigrants.
1965
Goldsmiths artists begin moving into Brockley
Those new residents were often drawn by the affordable housing and spacious gardens
1974
Brockley conservation area is designated
Both aim is preserving and protecting the character of the area. Brockley is today one of the best preserved and most coherent Victorian suburbs in Inner London

Brockley Cross Action Group is established
Their most visible work is the community gardens near Brockley station.

The lost buildings of Hilly Fields
When Hilly Fields opened in 1896 it was laid out with a bandstand, a refreshment house and shelters. Most are now gone, remembered through Edwardian postcards and the marks that surface in the grass each dry summer.
